With the little kids, this is a cute little blip in the middle of this extremely cold winter, but really, does it need to be printed in all of our calendars?  Think about all of the other important milestones that could be included in the calendar, but are left off.  Yet, somehow, Groundhog Day still stands.

I’m a big holiday decorator.  I have my valentines ready to hang, soon there will be shamrocks all around, but does anybody decorate for this holiday?  What exactly is protocol for acknowledging this day?  If it isn’t a memorial-type day and yet we don’t decorate for it, is this really necessary?

Maybe I’m a grouch, but it is kind of a silly thing to have on a calendar.

Halloween goodies: Witch Brooms: Pretzel Rods wrapped at the bottom with fruit roll ups that you slice and fray to make look like a broom; Pretzel Ghosts: Frost the ends of pretzel rods and stick on some raisins for eyes; Put gummy worms in your drink and it’s suddenly kind of creepy;

School Zones: why don’t they put the schools tucked away in neighborhoods like they used to?  I hate driving through school zones!  When I was a kid, I walked along safe roads to my school… not any more.

What would happen if you actually gave trick or treaters a rock?  (Reference: Charlie Brown)

I think Michelle Obama would be a cool first lady.

Things I wished I had learned in College (could be an entire blog about this subject): roofing 101, drywall repair, carpet installation for beginners, siding your house, landscape design, home lighting, and of course, washer/dryer repair.  I’ve yet to find a good use for the knowledge I gained in my Art Appreciation class.  Could have used a good vocational course (or 8).

My son went to the circus with his Daddy last night.  He was so excited when he got home!  I asked him out of all of the things he saw, what was his favorite thing.  His answer, “Getting a drink of water.”

Yes, the circus is fun; tigers, elephants, and clowns.  But no matter how many cool things there are, nothing beats using a public drinking fountain!

• My new favorite vegetable: Spaghetti Squash.  I had never eaten or prepared this before and it is great!  It really does look like spaghetti and the kids love it.
• Take This Advice: if you know where you’re going to be shopping or if you’re shopping online, PLEASE Google the store name plus coupons (“bath and body works coupons”) to see what you might find.  I got a bunch of free stuff today at Bath and Body Works by doing this.  You can often find something to print off to take into the store or a coupon code to enter online.  Saves $$$ and is so easy!
• I kind of like it when TV is crappy… I tend to read a lot more.
• We did some fun crafts this weekend: I made a treasure map of our back yard and had my 3 year old search for the fruit snacks, I mean treasure!  He loved it and we’ll be putting the map in his scrapbook.  We also made a cute turtle sock puppet.  I hot glued googly eyes on one of his blue socks (didn’t have green!), then I had him paint two paper plates green and then stapled them together.  When he slid his sock-covered hand through the plates, he had an adorable turtle!  So cute. 
• I’m almost finished with sTORI Telling, Tori Spelling’s book.  Pretty interesting book.  Hope to finish it tonight… so Peace out!

On a related scent: I like Yankee Candles car fresheners, except when I open the whole package and the entire car becomes a chamber of nasal torture!  I tried out the Home Sweet Home scent, accidentally opened the whole container and suddenly the normal subtle apple and cinnamon aromas sent (no pun intended) me in a time machine back to 1993.  It was Barndance for my sorority… we had botas filled with some cinnamon flavored liquor.  It wasn’t good.  It wasn’t good at all. 

Flash forward… now, I’m in the car with 2 noisy kids, fruit snack wrappers and dirty Kleenex litter the interior of my car and all I can think of was, “Who was my set-up/random dude/date that night and why on earth did I drink that crap?!?!?”

In any case, I still think it’s cool that the smells can take you back so easily.  In the future, when I smell Desitin and Kraft Mac N’ Cheese, I’m sure I’ll think back to the Fall of ’08 with fond memories.
