Some things on my mind…
- I’ve often seen the word “microwavable” on food packaging. Today was the first time I’ve ever seen “ovenable.”
- I love trying new recipes… always check out cookbooks at the library to see if you like it! However, it seems that each recipe requires a new sauce to store in my pantry or fridge. Most recently I have acquired fish sauce and tamari soy sauce. Will they ever be used?
- Do people really prefer to do the self-check at the grocery store? I feel like it is enough work to get the groceries out of the cart and back in the cart while paying (and most often entertaining 2 kids). I get it if you have 2 or 3 items, but other than that, I think they just take up space.
- I really hope that they don’t put MJ’s body on display. He spent so much time covering himself that I think he would prefer to finally have some privacy in his death.
- Little league and other kids’ programs are forcing me to be social. YIKES! I am a little weirded out by seeing peers from 15 years ago.
- 4th of July is a great holiday! No pressure to buy things, no required travel to be done, no incredibly long build-up time. Just a nice quick holiday (long weekend!) where you get to eat good food, hang outside, maybe catch a parade, oh, and be GRATEFUL and PROUD to be AMERICAN!
- Don’t take anything for granted. This is a very small example… the other night at t-ball, my son refused to participate. He is a very social kid, so this was unlike him. We spent 50 minutes trying to convince and coax him to go have fun and play. No luck. THANKFULLY, the next practice he was totally fine and back to himself. This experience made me realize that I should be excited that he is out there. It doesn’t matter if he hits the ball or not; it doesn’t matter if he catches the ball. He’s there and he’s trying and he’s having fun. In the end that all that really matters.
- Medical complaints: #1) I don’t think I blogged about this, but when I saw my opthamologist recently, I was trying to figure out the cost for the visit. I don’t have vision insurance, so it was going to be out of pocket. Here’s what the tech told me… “It’s $X if your presciption doesn’t change, but $X plus $15 if it does.” Really? Talk about pressure when they are flipping the little lenses (“here or here”). I was happy that my Rx didn’t change b/c I don’t want my eyes to get worse, but I was also pleased that I wasn’t getting financially penalized for my Rx changing! What a crock. #2) I used a mail in service for my migraine medication recently and was surprised at what they did. I have used the brand Imitrex for years now (minus the time when I was having babies). However, I guess my medical plan is trying to push for generics and called my dr. and they approved the use of generic. I’m fine trying out a new medicine, but I think they should ask me before they change it. I often buy generic for Tylenol or Advil, but that’s not the same as migraine medicine. I need it to work quickly and effectively. Not cool to make a change without patient notification!
- On a happy note, I keep reminding myself and my sweet husband that we are extremely blessed. Though we always see things that we want or wish we could do, on any given day, I’m walking around thinking, “How did I get this lucky?” I hope that you feel lucky too!

Great post! You definitely have a lot on your mind. I agree about those self checkouts. If I have a cartfull of stuff I am definitely waiting in the regular line. I do like them if I have a couple things and they are not produce items. Hope you had a great 4th of July!
I, too, feel incredibly blessed, even on the worst day! I always try to remember to be thankful.
I hate waiting behind people who have 100 items to buy and want to chat with the cashier.
My rx company did that to me with my maintenance medication. I was furious! I was told that, since the company is based in TX, the state law is to fill prescriptions as generic, unless otherwise noted by the md.
I have to disagree with you on the self-checkouts, though. I love them!
I agree with you on the 4th! I’m sorry we missed it with you guys.
