Groundhog Day?
Feb 2nd, 2009 by mom
Ok, I’ll admit that “Groundhog Day” the movie is excellent, but it really has very little to do with a groundhog. Today is Feb. 2 and if you look at the calendar, it actually says Groundhog Day.
With the little kids, this is a cute little blip in the middle of this extremely cold winter, but really, does it need to be printed in all of our calendars? Think about all of the other important milestones that could be included in the calendar, but are left off. Yet, somehow, Groundhog Day still stands.
I’m a big holiday decorator. I have my valentines ready to hang, soon there will be shamrocks all around, but does anybody decorate for this holiday? What exactly is protocol for acknowledging this day? If it isn’t a memorial-type day and yet we don’t decorate for it, is this really necessary?
Maybe I’m a grouch, but it is kind of a silly thing to have on a calendar.
