P.U.I… Pumping Under the Influence?
Aug 9th, 2008 by mom
This is ridiculous… If you have to litmus test your breast milk, you probably shouldn’t be giving it to your baby.
From their website:
What is Milkscreen
milkscreen is a simple, two minute test to detect alcohol in breast milk. milkscreen lets Mom know the volume of alcohol concentrated in her breast milk.
Why use milkscreen?
Because all mothers are unique! So, naturally the way our bodies process alcohol is unique, too. Metabolizing alcohol depends on several factors including:
• Body weight
• Type of alcohol consumed
• Food intake
In the past, there were only generalized guidelines for the questions surrounding breastfeeding after consuming alcohol. Now, with milkscreen, there is one simple and accurate method to let Mom know if her milk contains a level of alcohol that may negatively impact Baby.
Why was milkscreen created?
milkscreen was created to help extend the life of breastfeeding. Maternal self-confidence is critical to maintaining breastfeeding so we created milkscreen to help give mom the peace of mind that her breast milk does not contain a level of alcohol that may negatively impact Baby.

Really?!? If you have to test your milk you need to stop something. That is just sad.
I agree, if you have to test it, you probably shouldn’t be giving it. However, there are lots of good moms who drink socially, and at least there is a way to make sure you are keeping your baby safe.
Could have used that the last time we had “Girls Night Out” last August! Remember that? HA-HA-HA!!
And there it is - there really is a product for EVERYTHING. I agree, if you have to test then you shouldn’t be feeding it to the baby. Although there are probably some moms that are just SSOOO paranoid that if they touch alcohol to their lips they just put their baby at risk.
