I Grew Horns
Oct 23rd, 2007 by mom
Today was not a great day. I couldn’t get the kids to take their naps, so you know what kind of that makes for.
I ended up putting the kids in the car and driving through the Starbucks drive-thru for a Mommy Treat. It helped a little, but they still didn’t sleep.
When I got home I looked in the mirror and laughed at my disheveled appearance. Besides the time-for-GoodWill-shirt and the glasses, I noticed that my normally smooth to a pony tail head had 2 bumps that looked suspiciously like horns! I think it was a sign!
I’m the kind of person who likes to be liked. I’m a people pleaser, so when I have to be hard on my kid, it’s tough.
I don’t like being the enforcer, I like to be the comforter, but being home with them kind of puts the onus of discipline in my hands, too. I guess that sometimes means I am the bad guy and have to grow horns.
So, the kids fell asleep early tonight and I think the horns have disappeared now, too. That’s one good thing about young kids… every day is a new day to them. I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep and the opportunity to have a horn-free day tomorrow, God willing!
G’night.

God, how I know that feeling….you just want to sit there and say, please, please, take a nap. But for some reason, they do not want to. They don’t want to miss a minute, not even a second of life. It is almost like you asked them to do something totally nuts. Of course, what we, as mothers would do if someone tell us to go take a nap. That would be like hearing, “you just won a million dollars!”
