Do I Have to Answer the Door?
Sep 16th, 2007 by mom
In an age where we screen every call that comes in, I’m frustrated with my front door! If I have a baby attached to me and the phone rings, I can just let it ring and know that I can see who it was and call them back later (if I choose!). If somebody emails me, I can read it, delete it, or write them back hours or even days later. I like that freedom. I like having control over when I communicate with people. I only get on the computer when the kids are sleeping or otherwise occupied. I only make phone calls when I know I can have a grown up conversation for at least 2.5 minutes.
Ding Dong… CRAP! Somebody is at the door!!! What do I do? I can throw the baby down throw some pants on and pray that whoever it is at the door isn’t holding a camera or someone I used to date, but why should they have that kind of control over me??? Why do I have to respond on their time-line? That’s too much pressure for me. Tell you what, I’ll answer the door when I have two kids quietly playing (not asleep as is often the case until the door bell rings DING DONG!), when I have my hair done, my make-up and clothes on, and my house doesn’t look like I was playing couch-cushion-forts with my son. So, give me say 6-8 hours and I’ll open that door… maybe ![]()

I say no, you don’t have to answer the door. I rarely do. I have become good at hiding until they go away.
Do you guys have a lot of people coming to your door? I don’t & if a rare visitor comes, I simply look through the curtains in from my upstairs window to determineif I look ok to answer the door.
