Full Service Mom

My 4 month old daughter woke up last night at 2:00. That was unusual for her as she doesn’t usually wake up until after 4 or 5:00. When I went into her room, I struggled with whether I should feed her or just try to get her back to sleep without feeding. I opted for the latter. I picked her up, gave her a binky, and began rocking her. At first she seemed content, but then she started giving me this look. The look was communicating this sense of, “thanks, Mom, but aren’t you forgetting something?”
She looked at me like she had visited a gas station and though the people working there were very nice to her, gave her a car wash, etc., they never provided any gas. She was there for a “fill-up,” but the pumps weren’t going. Being in the cradle position, she knew what was waiting just inches away and that bothered her. It was kind of like when you go to the grocery store on a Sunday morning and they have roped off the liquor section. You know it’s all right there and it kind of bugs you that you can’t get it!
In the end, I did nurse her. Though I want her to be able to sleep through the night, I pride myself in being a full-service mom!
