I am Buyer, Hear Me Roar
Jun 27th, 2007 by mom
I’m not a huge activist, though I have strong opinions on a lot of things. I see people standing on the corner with their signs protesting the war and I don’t join them (but I’ll give them a honk if the sign tells me to). I don’t even take the time to volunteer very often anymore. I have, however, found the power of the pen, or in modern terms, the power of the keyboard, to be very effective.
Recently, I went to our local Sam’s Club and bought Glade Plug-Ins Scented Oil refills and brought them home. After I opened the box, I was disgusted at how much material was used to pack air freshener! It was a giant box surrounding a giant plastic mold. We recycle, so I felt ok about it, but I was bothered enough to get online and send a note to the SC Johnson company (”A Family Company”) regarding my concerns.
I know that my one little email is not going to change this monster-size company, but as a buyer, I have a voice. It only took a few minutes of my time and I did receive a letter back addressing the issue. As moms, we are a major demographic and we need to tell the people what we like and what we want changed. Take a minute the next time you’re not satisfied with something and get online and write to them. You never know, you may be able to make a difference!
ROAR!!!

You know what, if it makes you feel better - do it! It gives your kids a good example (to stand up for what they believe is right). It doesn’t matter how old they are…kids pick this stuff up.
I use the Glade carpet freshener (powder) that is fresh linen fragranced. My house smells nice for two or three days (which is good).
