Monkey-see, Monkey Doo Doo

My 2 year old woke up in the middle of the night last night, so I went into his room to lay down with him until he fell asleep. Even though I’m pretty useless without the aid of corrective lenses, I didn’t put on my glasses. I’ve made the trip to his room enough that I know every landmark and any squeaks in the floor to avoid.
I, in my semi-conscious state, was able to calm him down and get him back into bed. I reached down to grab one of the blankets that had creeped to the end of the bed and grabbed a dark, round mass that fit nicely into my hand. Having a flashback to the afternoon’s nap whereupon I found my son diaperless (gotta love velcro), I realized that this could have been POOP and I just dropped it!
I leaped out of the bed and grabbed a kleenex and bravely lifted the object. In my mind I was bracing myself for having to deal with a big poop stain on the bed (do I wake him up to change the sheet, or find a way to just cover it up???).
When I was able to pull it closer to my eyes (God, I wish I had Lasik), I chuckled to myself. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t the poop I feared, just a dark-brown, little monkey toy that went to bed with my son!
Maybe I should look into that Lasik…

Poop stories never end with two year olds around, I’m glad yours ended with a primate and not poo though.
Hey, I am a first time visitor here !
My husband does a lot of the night time comforting. He wears glasses and says he is blind without them. How come I (who does not need glasses) am the one who is always tripping over everything at night??
Too funny..lucky it wasn’t a deposit from ‘your’ little monkey.
Love your site btw
This story made me chuckle. I can relate, especially when it comes to avoiding the squeaks in the floor. It’s like navigating through a mine field.
What a HUGE relief that must’ve been!! You never know what you’re gonna get in the middle of the night with a 2 yr. old!!
Lasik - or maybe laser eye surgery!

I’m glad it was a monkey and not a mess. One of my little darlings is fond of leaving little doll shoes, pointy jewelry and coloring books on the floor. When she calls us in the middle of the night, we’re either hopping on one foot and trying not to swear or sliding all over the place and trying not to fall. Children certainly perk up the wee hours of the morning, don’t they?
Shine On,
Lill
