Purple Arms, Green Thumb

To keep my son busy and to feed his creative side, we had a couple of fun activities today.
Coloring:
Though crayons travel easy and are less likely to make a huge mess (I’m ignoring the crayon marks on the car window, all over the high chair tray, and I won’t name names of restaurants around town where my son has left his mark), there is something that draws (ha!) kids to markers. For my son, it is the option of coloring himself. Today he colored purple tiger stripes up and down his arms. Grrrr. The nice thing is these days everything says “washable.” I now understand why we didn’t have a lot of markers around the house until I was much older. What a pain that would have been to clean!
Note: I am not a fan of the Color Wonders products… too long of a delay for color to appear. May be more fun for older kids?
Gardening:
One of my favorite things to do with my son is work on the garden. I’m kind of shy to the sun and it usually gets pretty hot in the summer, so I like quick activities that we can do outside together.
Watering the flowers and pulling weeds is a great activity! Not only can the water be fun in itself (and cools off hot feet/toes!), it teaches kids about caring for other things, responsibility, patience, appreciation of nature, etc. etc. Ok, he may be a little young to truly get a lot out of this, but he seems to enjoy it and I do, too!
