Power Tools & Gender Roles
May 21st, 2007 by mom
I’ve always been a bit of a feminist and have fought stereotypical gender roles, but over time, I’m finding that maybe men and women are better at different things.
Take for example power tools. Yesterday I thought I would have my husband show me how to use the hedge trimmer. I’m home now, so I can help out with yard work (usually his job). He gave me a quick tutorial (it is a very easy tool to use) and then I was off on my own.
I was doing ok and having fun using my power tool, but then it happened. Oops… I accidentally knicked the power cord rendering it complete trash. How embarassing! Just when I thought I was crossing the labor line that separates men and women, I fall flat on my face!
When it comes to divvying up household responsibilities, it looks like hedge trimming will stay on my husband’s to-do list. Maybe I’ll try taking out the garbage?
